Subject This article discusses the issues related to the methodology of evaluation carried out at various stages of the management process. Objectives The article aims to explore ways to improve the methodology of assessing the impact of tourism on the socio-economic development of the region. Methods For the study, we used economic and mathematical, and statistical methods, methods of rating and comparison, and the methods of aggregate indices. Results The article offers an estimation of the aggregate index of tourism influence on the socio-economic development of the region on the basis of a combination of rating and scoring methods, as well as approaches to classification of competitiveness factors of regional tourism systems. The article also presents an original idea of the content of factors of tourist and recreational capacity of the area. Conclusions Assessment of the socio-economic development of the region, based on measuring the contribution of each factor to the achievement of socio-economic development goals, becomes a necessary scientific and applied action, stage and process in the ensuring a sustainable socio-economic development of the region.
