The article generalizes and presents the data characterizing financial and economic position of the Russian Orthodox Church before the Russian Revolution of 1917. The paper presents archival data on revenues and expenditures of the churches of the Ostashkovo district of Tver province in the middle of the XIX century, data on clergy income and payments to ecclesiastical authorities (bishops).
