Foreign banks in Russia: reaction to the financial crisis

This article examines the activities of foreign banks in Russia and reveals the differences between foreign banks and their domestic counterparts in capital attraction and assets management. It focuses particularly on the impact of current financial crisis on the activities of foreign banks. Using the example of the banks controlled by non-residents, the study shows that foreign banks are less sensitive to crisis in host country than local credit institutions and stabilize indirectly the banking market in Russia.
