In this study the latest statistics on some of the most important aspects of innovation development of the countries - members of the OECD is analyzed. Some conclusions about the sustainability of different types of national innovation systems to sharp changes in the external macroeconomic environment are made. A comparative study of anti-crisis measures taken by governments, to preserve the innovative capacity and the level of innovation activity is made. It is shown that in the post-crisis period the national innovation systems with predominant role of the state vector and the higher education sector have certain advantages, which can be used in order to increase the pace of innovation development. However, the measures of state support of innovative activity must comply with the overall ideology of post-industrial society as a network society with high levels of entrepreneurial and innovative culture and a relatively low spatial heterogeneity.
