Subject. The efficiency of systemically important credit institutions in Russia. Objectives. To carry out a comparative assessment of the efficiency of systemically important credit institutions using the DEA method. Methods. The Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) methodology was applied. Two output?oriented computer models were used: the CCR model (radial method) and the ERM model (maximum distance to the frontier method). Results. Efficiency modelling of Russia’s systemically important credit institutions was carried out by assessing the impact of input variables — capital and assets — on output variables — deposits, loans, and net profit. Russia’s systemically important banks were divided into two subgroups according to their level of efficiency. The first subgroup, comprising six banks, was identified as highly efficient; the second subgroup, consisting of five banks, was classified as moderately efficient. Conclusions and Relevance. High efficiency of the systemically important banks was established, which indicates the success of the regulator’s policy in forming this group of banks and in their macroprudential regulation. The results can be used by the Bank of Russia when shaping the policy for the development of the banking system and when making decisions on the macroprudential regulation of systemically important credit institutions.
