Subject. Assessment of the current level of digitalization of the Russian Federation’s economy. Objectives. To assess the current level of digitalization of the Russian Federation’s economy and to identify the best areas for implementing digital transformation initiatives. Methods. Content analysis, statistical methods, and comparative analysis methods were applied. Results. Along with conclusions about a fairly high level of digitalization in Russia – particularly in public administration, finance, and telecommunications – the main risks and key challenges of Russian digitalization in the areas of digital infrastructure and legislative framework were identified. These include legal and regulatory barriers, cybersecurity risks, and the level of digital readiness. Conclusions. In the context of unfavorable economic and geopolitical conditions and infrastructure degradation resulting from sanctions, the key to maintaining the set pace of digitalization development lies in: import substitution of key technologies and software products; further development of the population’s digital culture; and ensuring cybersecurity and personal data protection.
