Subject. The study focuses on project management standards. Objectives. The paper aims to examine the current state of standardization in project management; compare Russian national project management standards with international ones; assess the level of project management standardization. Methods. The research employs the methods of analysis and systematization. Results. The study delivers the following outcomes: a review of different types of standards; an analysis of project management principles embedded in key international standards (including the PMBOK Guide and PRINCE 2), which are widely applied across various countries; an examination of standardization principles in Russia; an overview of currently active project management standards; identification that existing project management standards comprise both translated international/foreign standards and Russian-developed standards reflecting local market and cultural specifics. A comparative analysis with international standards is also provided. Conclusions. Russian national standards, developed domestically, concisely capture the core aspects of project management, ensuring all key elements are addressed. They offer precise and compact definitions of fundamental terms and concepts. Nevertheless, Russian standards lag behind international ones in multiple dimensions. There remains a need to further enhance Russian project management standard developments.
