Subject. This article analyzes the management of business process cost as a result of interaction with its environment, which shapes the primary and secondary input and output streams of the business process. Objectives. The article aims to develop theoretical propositions and formulate methodological recommendations for managing the cost of a business process as a result of optimizing its interaction with the external and internal environments. Methods. For the study, we used the methods of description, analysis, modeling, optimization, as well as graphic and analytical representation. Results. The article presents the business process as a "black box", defines the entities in its environment that form primary and secondary input and output streams, models and describes the procedures for managing the business process, and provides methodological recommendations for determining the optimal number of input and output streams of the business process and minimizing its cost. Conclusions. The number of input and output streams that are subject to optimization is a significant factor in the cost of the business process. To effectively manage the cost of a business process, it is necessary to apply the principles of institutional economics, which provide for a balance between transaction costs.
