Subject. This article examines the process of functioning of the system of financial education of Russian citizens. Objectives. The article aims to develop modern approaches to the consideration, definition and analysis of activities in the field of financial education of Russian citizens. Methods. For the study, we used the general scientific methods, content analysis, economic-statistical and abstract-logical methods. Results. The article clarifies the concept of Financial Education in the context of improving the financial literacy and forming the financial culture of Russian citizens. The article also reveals the main trends in the development of the system of financial education of Russian citizens. Conclusions and Relevance. Financial education today can be considered as an effective tool for improving the financial literacy and forming the financial culture of citizens. The mechanism of financial education is implemented as part of information and educational activities in the field of improving the financial literacy and forming the financial culture of various target groups of the population. The results of the study can be used to develop a system of financial education of the population in the regions.
