Subject. The article discusses the impact of sanctions on the performance of Russian banks.
Objectives. The focus is on the consideration of key performance indicators of banking activities, analysis of the impact of sanctions on the efficiency of 100 Russian banks.
Methods. We made a sample of 100 Russian banks, sorted by net assets, identified and calculated key performance indicators of banking activities, built a model and analyzed the impact of sanctions on performance indicators under the Difference-in-Difference method, using STATA software.
Results. The study unveiled a slight negative impact on the performance indicators of banking activities.
Conclusions. In 2022, unfriendly countries imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia, including the banking sector. Thus, the analysis of the impact of sanctions on the effectiveness of Russian banks is highly relevant in modern economic conditions. Given the complex international relations and sanctions policy towards Russia, the study of this issue is extremely important for understanding the impact of external factors on the functioning of the country's banking system.
