Subject The article addresses a methodology for assessing economic effects in digital technologies.
Objectives The aims are to underpin the approach and describe the methodology for assessing the economic effects of investing in digital technologies; and using the data on key industrial complexes performance, to reveal an algorithm for assessing the effects of digital investments on the behavior of costs and financial results.
Methods The study employs the retrospective analysis of interrelations between the growth of investments in digital technologies and changes in the results of business operations of organizations of Russian industrial complexes.
Results The paper proves that proper investments in digital technologies provide for saving of the main elements of operating costs of organizations, i.e. labor costs, costs of materials, fuel, and energy. It also estimates the expected effect of investing in digital technologies, and illustrates it by the case of transport as the most important infrastructure sector of the economy.
Conclusions The offered approach is of practical value in the process of economic justification of provisions of programs and projects for digital technologies introduction. Further development of the methodology in the direction of quantitative assessment of digital technologies’ impact on the most important economic indicators (increase in value added, sales, labor productivity, etc.) will be a harmonious continuation of the research.
