Importance The article highlights the opportunities and threats to the national banking system and considers the areas of diversification of credit organizations' operations.
Objectives The purposes of the study include highlighting the opportunities for commercial banks to stir up their activities, specifying the areas of activity diversification under global financial instability, describing the stages of evaluation procedures for diversification of commercial bank's activities and the algorithm of control over diversification of operations and services.
Methods The study draws on a logical analysis and systems approach.
Results We highlight the opportunities arising for credit institutions in modern conditions, and identify threats. The study determined that there is a discrepancy between standard organizational structures of the bank and the principles of customer-oriented technologies, therefore, we propose introducing a matrix version to build the bank's organizational structure and principles of program activity. We also consider the qualities of a competitive bank and formulate requirements to banking products.
Conclusions The findings may contribute to further research in the Russian banking system. The paper provides practical recommendations on implementing the strategy of credit organizations' operations diversification.
