Importance In the world's practice, agricultural insurance is among the factors of stable economic development of agricultural industry and effective tools of financial soundness of agrarian enterprises. However, Ukraine makes only first steps in this difficult market segment. Objectives The study aims to review general operating results of the Ukrainian agricultural insurance market over 2005–2015, analyze insurance products offered in the market, consider their structural features broken down by insurance companies, and determine problems related to agricultural insurance development in Ukraine. Methods The study employs economic and statistical methods of research, in particular, monographic, tabular and graphical methods, comparison and scientific generalization. Results In 2005–2015, the Ukrainian agricultural insurance market demonstrated a general tendency to slow reduction. The market uses few insurance products, where insurance of winter crops against complete failure over wintering period prevails; there is no insurance of spring and winter crop harvest against multiple risks during spring and summer periods. However, there are opportunities to expand the product line. Conclusions and Relevance The market requires a systems approach on the part of the State. In particular, it is necessary to perfect regulation and provide support to agricultural sector. Despite the current difficult macroeconomic and financial situation in Ukraine, the agricultural insurance market proves its viability and potential for further development.
