A new approach to the insurance product concept

Subject The article analyzes different viewpoints on the insurance product term, and its relation to the concepts of insured goods and insurance service.
     Objectives The objective of the research is to achieve uniform understanding of the insurance product term, as the lack of such understanding has negative implications. They include impossibility to build up the scientific hierarchy of insurance terms applied in the insurance practice, to resolve controversial issues, as the Russian Civil Code does not consider the insurance product as an object of civil rights, and difficulties with the standardization of the national and Western insurance thesaurus under increasing integration of the Russian and global markets.
     Methods The methodological basis of the research includes general scientific methods (theoretical and experimental ones) and special methods (in particular, the description method and the method of revealing essential characteristics and attributes).
     Results The obtained results enable to shape the scientific idea regarding the economic substance of insurance business through the examination and analysis of its fundamental concept, i.e. the insurance product.
     Conclusions and Relevance The theoretical solution to the problem under consideration will allow the insurance business experts to efficiently overcome the existing difficulties relying on the improved civil law base. This has a practical value for the Russian insurance market as a part of the international economy.
