The article notes that the increasing role of innovation makes new demands on the development and evaluation of innovative capacity in Russia, management of innovation activity of an enterprise. The adequate assessment of the current situation and choice of the perspective directions of innovative development at an enterprise requires carrying out a systematic assessment of available innovative potential. The authors investigate the approaches to the definition of innovative potential of a company, the model of an innovative enterprise, present and analyze statistical data on exports and imports of essential goods and services in Russia. The paper considers and studies the principles of effective management by competitiveness of an enterprise.
