The article discusses the causes and consequences of the financial crisis that shook the global banking system in the last quarter century. Systemic financial crisis of 2007-2008 years and its implications for the Russian banking system are considered from the position to ensure its stability, and the main issues that are specific to the banking system in the country and identify proposals to increase its stability.
