In the article the mechanism of functioning of the modern art market, the pricing mechanism on works of art is considered, the comparative characteristic of investment to pictures of various artists is presented. Investment comparison in works of art with investment in gold is carried out. For understanding of functioning of the art market the concepts (art rent) and "art fetish" are presented. The presented theoretical generalizations of the art market allow in a new way, and also more systemically to look at the investment mechanism in works of art, to understand essence and the content of occurring processes.
