In the article the concept, essence and structure of social insurance, its role and place of system of social protection of the population are analyzed. Key problems of development of social insurance in Russia at the present stage are revealed. The mechanism of improvement of obligatory social insurance on the basis of the concept of social and insurance marketing is offered.
