The role of I.Y. Gorlov in Russian financial thought

The article looks at the role of I.Y. Gorlov in the evolution of Russian financial thought. In 1841, his book “Theory of Finances” was published. The fact that his work was the first writing about finances to be published in Russian greatly pleased I. Y. Gorlov. The author himself initiated the idea about his exceptional role in the history of Russian financial thought, which exists up to date: he is recognized as the originator of the first financial work in Russia. As a result of the analysis, the given article concludes that the idea about I. Y. Gorlov’s pioneering role promoted in Russian financial literature is ungrounded; meanwhile the article reveals Gorlov’s other previously unrecognized merits contributing to the development of financial science in Russia.
