This article examines the key stages in the development and establishment of the financial mechanisms of institutions dependent on the federal budget in the Russian Federation. We provide a definition of the current financial mechanisms of budgetary institutions, we analyze their content and constituent parts. We show the influence of the legal aspects of a budgetary institution on the content of these financial mechanisms. We provide an analysis of the effectiveness of the financial mechanisms of budgetary institutions with regard to both budgetary and non-budgetary funds. We show how budgetary law has changed the legal foundations of financial mechanisms. We recommend vectors for the improvement of the financial mechanisms employed by budgetary institutions in the Russian Federation.
