Health care financing in Azerbaijan: today and tomorrow

After the breakup of the Soviet Union in 1991, a declaration of independence was made. This was a trial for the country that was already going through hard times related to political, financial and military difficulties. Public revenues reduction resulted in health care financing. The 90-s brought down public expenditure on health care in real terms, reducing the percentage quota of expenditure in the GDP. Furthermore the figures show the gradual, but stable reduction of public expenditure on health care, and the process is still going on. According to the WHO, the percentage public expenditure on health care in the GDP in 2003 was the lowest in Europe.
