In th earticle it is noted that modern social and economic transformations promoted attention increase to ensuring effective social protection of the population. The regional model of the social protection which need of creation is caused by economical and geographical features and a level of development of the Republic of Dagestan is considered. Advantages of system approach to the organization of social protection are analysed, the factors promoting formation of regional model of social protection, focused on use of economic potential of households of the republic are defined.
