Importance The research focuses on diverse aspects of functional representation of civil society institutions, the place and the role of economic, social and political relationships in developing civil society institutions, which shape patterns of sustainable regional development.
Objectives The research critically evaluates and substantiates the dependence of regional development sustainability on transparent representation of civil society institutions.
Methods The general methodological framework relies upon a dialectical and historical approach coupled with simultaneous, comparative and systems methods.
Results We made a detailed description of civil society institutions, their place and role in public and socio-economic administration. The research determined the institutional specifics of representing group interests through civil society institutions and dependence of the sustainable regional development strategy's outcome on relevant and available transparent mechanisms for territorial management.
Conclusions and Relevance Sustainable regional development is achievable only if citizens are more active in increasing their standards of living on a systemic basis, and all communication channels between the public and the State are involved. The proposed scientific recommendations, ideas and conclusions can be applied by authorities to prepare socio-economic projects for sustainable regional development and vital programs for supporting the communication between authorities and civil society institutions.
