The author submits the author's vision of the ecological situation concept. The article discusses distinctive features of the modern approaches to an ecological situation assessment and highlights their parameters. It points out formation sources and also the main focus on the environmental situation in Russia and its regions, as well as identifies the regions of the highest level of anthropogenic influence and environmental risk. The author emphasizes the positions to improve the ecological situation regulations at the present stage of the country's economy modernization.
