In the article specifics of innovative development of the Russian economy and possibility of technological, economic and social modernization of society is considered. The essential attention is paid to treatment of the concept "innovations" by various social and professional groups. On the basis of results of large-scale sociological research the questions connected with development and application of innovations in activity of the Russian enterprises (in particular, in southeast part of the Moscow region) is analyzed.
