The model of historical process, explaining transition of the population from «extensive type» reproduction to «intensive type», is relevant in the modern society. In practice the following approach is used with definite specific character. There are special features of «being» our country in the definite phase of demographic transition. The article is devoted to questions connected to demographic theory of transition to features of development of demographic situation in Russia.
