The transformation of the labor market in the Nizhny Novgorod Region: crisis and post-crisis periods

The article analyzes the main social-economic characteristics of the labor market in Russia and the Nizhny Novgorod region: economically active population involved in the economy, and the rate of unemployment. The effect of the economic crisis of 2008-2009 on the labour market of the country and the region is studied in the article. On the basis of the analysis of the employment structure on national and regional levels, the issues of population employment and job placement of college and university graduates are revealed; the trends in the relationship between job placement and educational attainment are considered. The article concludes that higher education raises the level of an employee’s security on the labor market and increases the chances of its employment.
