The influence of the marketisation of education on the innovation-based development in the society
Available online: 1 July 2011 Subject Heading: Priorities of Russia JEL Classification:
The possibilities of the innovation-based economic development and the opportunities for the technical, economic and social modernization of the Russian society depend on the quality of the human development, which is highly modified by the level of education. The marketisation of education which started in 90’s with the development of the fee paid education in Russia caused a lot of problems in the educational system. In the Russian economy the development of the market mechanisms itself promoted the forthcoming of the key point: the market competition, inter alia the competition on the educational market. On the other hand the market called for new specialists. This high demand bred the supply of the educational institutions. As a result the most popular qualifications were accountants and lawyers. The Russian president D. A. Medvedev stressed the fact that there’s the oversupply of such specialists in our country. On the labour market the supply for the economists today is not included in the top 10. And this happens despite the fact that all that qualifications are in high demand today. What’s the reason for this choice: the successful marketing strategy of the educational institutions, the wrong choice of the prospective students or the disadvantages of the educational system in Russia? This is still a debatable question. The needed quality and quantity of specialists in today’s situation in Russia for the innovation-based economic development is still unclear.
