Tourism as a factor for sustainable development of the Russian North regions: marketing strategy (on the example of the Nenets autonomous district)

The article shows that raw development of the northern territories leads to growth of mono-industrial economy that makes the economy of the northern region extremely unstable in unsteady market conditions, depletion of raw material base. Research of foreign experience allows to draw the conclusion in the need for a diversified economy at an early stage of resource development. The work represents, that tourism industry can become one of the leading sectors of territorial specialization in the northern regions. Different problems are investigated and perspectives are defined of the development on the example of the Nenets Autonomous District.
