The importance of education in Russia: difficulties and reformative problems

Education in modern Russia has been always considered to be one of the most important issues. There is no doubt that it is demanding and essential nowadays. Almost all schoolchildren have the motivation for higher education. Either Russian government or the Ministry of Education and Science realize the importance of this issue and do their best for the improvement of education in our country: they try to make teaching profession more prestigious, take into account the quality of educational process, launch different projects, e.g. “Our New School”, The Year of a Teacher 2010, etc. However many initiatives like the Unified State Examination, some school reforms, and a move to two-tier education in line with Bologna process model only intensify such state of affairs. The causes of these difficulties and possible solutions to this complicated situation are observed in this article.
