The article discusses the history of development and current state system of higher education in modern Russia. Studied the life cycle of the industry. Construct a statistical model the number of students HPE, we consider the conditions and factors which determine the level and dynamics of basic indicators of higher education. An analysis of contemporary trends in the industry. Formulated and proved the author's position regarding the planned areas of industrial restructuring. The conclusions and suggestions. As sources of information used in official statistics, Federal State Statistics Service, other state institutions.
