Importance At the new phase of the market development, the society is interested in the sustainable development of entities in the short, mid and long run. There is a need in information on resources and capitals of business entities in terms of the use of knowledge, rather than labor and investment only. When working with financial statements, relevant users may want to focus on the value, rather than profit. Thus the role and structure of value should be revised for purposes of corporate financial reporting. Objectives The research devises a new approach to financial reporting through the structure of value. Methods The research employs methods of analysis, comparison, typology, dialectics, and synthesis of various theories on value. Results I propose a new approach to corporate financial reporting, which draws upon the structure of economic value in the current conditions of the saturated market. It allows correlating values of business entities and the public, representing capital modifications, controlling the process of financial reporting in the short, mid and long run. In this respect, I applied a resource-based view of the labor, investment and knowledge as principal capital generating factors. Conclusions and Relevance I conclude that the proposed approach to the economic value structure meets contemporary needs of businesses and the public in financial reporting on capitalization factors and their influence on the capital modification in the short, mid and long run. The findings may be useful for scientific, educational and methodological purposes.
