The key performance indicators system and its use in the rating of telecommunications companies' competitiveness

Importance The article considers a set of theoretical, methodological and practical issues of assessing the telecommunication companies' performance based on the balanced system of key performance indicators (KPIs).
Objectives The aim of the study is to provide a theoretical underpinning and develop practical recommendations for defining and calculating KPIs for telecommunications operations in the main areas or perspectives.
Methods The study employs general scientific principles and research techniques, i.e. analysis and synthesis, induction and deduction, collection and compilation of theoretical bases of balanced scorecard development, compares them with practical application. We also use observation, grouping and comparison, calculation and analytical methods as a part of the integrated approach.
Results We developed theoretical provisions and improved methods to calculate key performance indicators for telecommunications operations in Finance and Customers and Products areas, presented the specifics of their rating based on the proposed balanced scorecard. The findings may be used in the accounting practice of telecommunications companies, and in the education process when teaching accounting and analytical disciplines.
Conclusions Under competition for customers, telecommunications companies need to constantly monitor the implementation of tactical and strategic objectives, using the balanced system of KPIs. To assess competitive advantages of telecommunications companies, it is crucial to rate the performance of both different companies of the industry and regional branches of a communications service provider based on the balanced scorecard.
