Subject. Problems of Increasing the Financial Stability of Russian Credit Institutions.
Objectives. Development of a multi-level benchmarking model that allows determining the tactical and strategic advantages of Russian banks.
Methods. Mathematical analysis tools were applied.
Results. A model has been proposed that allows identifying industry leaders and moving from a fragmented assessment of the industry's state to a comprehensive diagnosis of competitiveness. It has been established that the main problems of Russian banks are a low level of risk diversification, insufficient attention to customer requests, and lagging in technological development.
Conclusions. The research results can be taken into account when developing programs for the development of the banking sector.

Keywords: competitiveness, benchmarking, financial sector, commercial bank
