Subject. The impact of digital technologies on business process transformation. Objectives. Analysis of the relationship between institutional sectors of e-commerce and the legal aspects of forming the foundations of commercial activity in the context of the rapid development of information and communication technologies. Methods. General scientific research methods were applied. Results. E-commerce in modern conditions is an indicator of the development of the domestic market. The institution of trade mediation largely determines the characteristics of the functioning of distribution channels. The laws regulating activities within traditional wholesale and retail trade do not fully take into account the specifics of e-commerce. Conclusions. The research results can serve as a basis for developing state standards that define the development of the e-commerce system in Russia.
