Subject. This article discusses the issues of global digital transformation, professional development system, and adaptation of the labor market to the new technological paradigm. Objectives. The article aims to assess the readiness of workers and employers to implement artificial intelligence systems in labor processes.vMethods. For the study, we used systems, functional and structural, cross-cultural, comparative, and statistical analyses. Results. The article finds that artificial intelligence is a sort of a catalyst for structural changes, which are expressed in the automation of routine operations and transformation of worker qualification requirements. The article also identifies an imbalance between the reduction in the number of traditional professions and the creation of new ones, which increases the risks of social inequality and labor market polarization. Conclusions. In Russia, at both the federal and regional levels, it is necessary to develop and implement a comprehensive policy aimed at developing education and retraining systems, as well as creating adaptive mechanisms of social support for workers in order to minimize the costs of the transition period.
