Subject. This article considers the machine-building industry’s contribution to the country’s security, functioning of industrial enterprises in unstable political conditions, and environmental protection. Objectives. The article aims to conduct a critical analysis of the parameters taken into account when assessing the sustainability of engineering enterprises. Methods. For the study, we used the general scientific research methods. Conclusions and Relevance. To obtain more objective assessments of the sustainability of engineering enterprises, it is necessary to consider sanctions, the positions of enterprises in global markets, the volume of investments in the development of modern technologies, and the factor of import substitution. The research results can be used when developing sectoral standards in the field of sustainable development.
