Subject. This article discusses the issues of implementation of the economic potential of Arctic Karelia and peculiarities of the social infrastructure’s development at the municipal level. Objectives. The article aims to systematize economic, cultural, and demographic issues characteristic of Arctic Karelia, and assess the degree of their distinct manifestation in various municipalities. Methods. For the study, I used a combination of econometric and sociological approaches and methods. Results. The article finds that the regional space of Arctic Karelia is characterized mainly by negative trends of social and economic processes. Conclusions. The interrelation of regions necessary for creating a unified social and economic space in Arctic Karelia and mitigating local issues is limited due to the weak development of transport infrastructure in most municipalities.
