Subject. This article discusses the economic and geostrategic significance of the Arctic to Russia.
Objectives. The article aims to determine the areas where efforts should be concentrated to achieve the target indicators outlined in the Northern Sea Route Development Plan until 2035.
Methods. For the study, we used the economic-and-statistical, comparative-and-analytical methods, as well as the method of expert assessment.
Results. In the Arctic regions of the Russian Federation, it is necessary first of all to solve the problems related to the formation of the freight base and delays in the implementation of certain transport and infrastructure projects. Continuous monitoring of the state of coastal infrastructure is required, and the construction of railway lines leading to seaports is of great importance. The introduction of target quotas will promote the attraction and retention of young specialists in the Arctic regions.
Conclusions. The preservation and strengthening of Russia's positions in the Arctic is the country's main strategic objective.
