Subject. This article discusses the importance of volunteerism in strengthening key socioeconomic institutions and development of the new subjects of the Russian Federation. Objectives. The article aims to assess the societal perception of volunteering. Methods. For the study, we used a sociological analysis. Results. The article describes the nature of the implementation of socially significant initiatives, and changes and trends in the development of the volunteer movement, considering the current situation in the regions of the South of Russia as a case study. Conclusions. State support for volunteering in the areas of the new entities of the Russian Federation can facilitate the acceleration of their integration into the socioeconomic space of the country.
