Subject. This article considers the development of digital technologies as a condition for achieving economic leadership in a global context. Objectives. The article aims to analyze the reasons for China's leadership in the world innovation market. Methods. For the study, I used the methods of comparative and structural analyses. Results. The article finds that China's leadership in the development of the digital economy is due to the attractiveness of the digital industry for foreign and domestic investment, the availability of a developed information and communication infrastructure, including for households, financial and legislative support for the digitalization of the economy at the government level, and the stimulation of the development of large high-tech companies. Conclusions. China is the country that has the most favorable environment for the development of the digital economy. China's practices can be used to develop the market for digital solutions in the Russian economy.
