The timber complex of the Russian Federation: Formation of priority areas of import substitution

Subject. This article discusses the problems of development of the domestic market of forest products and technological modernization of timber complex enterprises.
Objectives. The article aims to develop measures to reduce the dependence of Russian timber complex enterprises on imports.
Methods. For the study, I used generalization, analogy, comparative and systems analyses.
Results. The article finds that in 2023, the dependence of timber complex enterprises on imports has reached critical values and it proposes measures necessary to support the industry.
Conclusions. Despite some positive trends related to meeting the needs of the domestic market for forest products, in the long term the industry will need to solve the problems caused by the technological lag behind developed countries.
