Subject. This article discusses the State policy in tourism.
Objectives. Based on statistical information, the article aims to identify the main trends in the development of the tourist and recreational sphere of the central regions of Russia (Vladimir, Yaroslavl, Ivanovo, Kostroma, and Ryazan Oblasts) in the context of changing environmental factors.
Methods. For the study, we used the general scientific methods of research.
Results. The article identifies the problems affecting the development of tourism in the mentioned regions, and highlights prospective lines of development of the recreational sphere, which most fully take into account changes in environmental factors.
Conclusions. In the central regions of Russia, it is necessary to reorient the development of the recreational sphere to domestic tourism, including autotourism, ecotourism, rehabilitation and religious kinds.
