Subject. This article discusses the issues of demographic and socio-economic development of the regions of Russia during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Objectives. The article aims to analyze the COVID-19 pandemic impact on demographic, socio-economic development, and the poverty rate in the Siberian Federal District regions. It also aims to compare economic and demographic indicators for 2020 with similar ones for 2019.
Methods. For the study, we used correlation and regression analyses, synthesis, and comparison.
Results. The article describes the negative changes in the demographic development of the Siberian Federal District regions, and it associates the changes with natural population decline intensification and a considerable increase in mortality. The article argues that the high proportion of children in the region's population and unemployment are significant factors of poverty.
Conclusions. Surmounting the pandemic crisis is associated with an increase in external demand for hydrocarbons and products of the petrochemical, chemical and metallurgical industries. The rehabilitation of the service economy is possible due to the growth of incomes of the population and appropriate assistance to small and medium-sized businesses from the federal and regional authorities.

Keywords: excess mortality, extractive industry, unemployment rate, real income of population, poverty rate
