Subject. This article deals with the issues related to the economic security of the Russian Far East and the impact of the shadow economy on it.
Objectives. The article aims to justify the need to develop a regional mechanism for managing the challenges and threats to the economic security of each particular area in order to ensure the economic security of the entire Russian Federation.
Methods. For the study, I used economics and statistics, and comparative analyses.
Results. The article reveals the main challenges and threats to the economic security of the regions of Russia's Far East.
Conclusions. Inter-regional differentiation and the high shadow economy level have a significant impact on the economic security of the Russian Far East. The development of a mechanism for managing challenges and threats at the level of each individual entity contributes to improving the economic security of both the macro-region and the country as a whole.
