Subject This article discusses the historical placement of factors of production, natural resources situs problem, and the problem of their effective development, use, and conservation.
Objectives The article aims to identify the main factors determining the socio-economic development of underdeveloped regions.
Methods For the study, we used the methods of dynamic analysis, comparison, grouping, and the analytical techniques.
Results The article analyzes the main problems of underdeveloped regions and identifies the range of factors that affect the main economic indicators.
Conclusions The inertial path of development does not contribute to stabilizing the economic situation of the underdeveloped regions. The problem of finding natural competitive advantages, a reasonable choice of growth zones taking into account the internal capacity of the areas in order to ensure their accelerated development in relation to the most successful regions becomes urgent.
