Subject This article discusses the activities of business incubators and accelerators as regional institutions for innovative products commercialization, technological entrepreneurship development, and startups promotion.
Objectives The article aims to study the properties and stages of development of business incubators and accelerators.
Methods For the study, we used the systems and structural approaches, and the methods of comparative analysis, generalization, and classification.
Results The article presents classifications of business incubators and accelerators taking into account their industry orientation, and shows their shortcomings and key properties. The article also graphically illustrates the structure of business incubators and accelerators in Russia.
Conclusions Business incubators and accelerators, as special institutions, are created for the effective development of innovations and new technologies. Accelerators imply accelerated development of startups through intensive patronizing and investment support of projects in early stages.
