Subject This article considers the issues of development and functioning of economic growth areas as a systemically important element of the region's economic system.
Objectives The article aims to study the problems of development of growth areas.
Methods For the study, we used the systems approach, methods of situation, structural, and statistical analyses, and synthesis.
Results The article presents a developed model of the region's economic growth area structure, growth areas classification, and a context diagram of the process of performance of the growth area model.
Conclusions Modeling of the economic growth area process identifies such factors as the volume of budget and private investment and the number of residents of the economic growth area. The results obtained can be used to develop provisions of the regional socio-economic development strategies, and predict the performance of special economic zones.
