Importance The article discusses possibilities to enhance the efficiency of Russia's foreign trade at the regional level, which is especially important under sanctions and economic instability against the backdrop of increased globalization of the world economy. Objectives The aim of this work is to identify Russian regions with developed foreign trade in goods and services. Methods Official statistics on international trade in goods and services in Russian regions served as input data for the study. We calculated and performed a cartographic analysis of exports and imports per capita by Russian regions. For multidimensional classification of data we applied a cluster analysis. Results We highlight three specific clusters, describe them, and analyze the constituent entities of the Russian Federation. Our analysis of the clusters for two periods enabled to conclude about significant changes in the regions and their uneven growth. Conclusions The findings help reveal regions with efficient foreign trade in goods and services. Their positive experience can be used in other regions.
