Subject This article deals with the issues of development of priority directions and mechanisms of development of the forest complex of the Komi Republic.
Objectives The article aims to show the structural peculiarities of the forest sector and its related problems, analyze the world and national trends of the sector development, show its significance in the context of the emerging green economy, and propose mechanisms for its development.
Methods For the study, we used the method of microeconomic analysis and interviewing of representatives of enterprises and specialists of State departments.
Results The article determines that, on the one hand, the modernization of the processes of added-value wood conversion is a priority, and on the other hand, there is a need to preserve natural capital of forests as a factor of green economy. The microeconomic approach was tested in the development of the strategy of socio-economic development of the Komi Republic until 2030.
Relevance The results obtained can be used to develop various strategies for socio-economic development of the industry and the region as a whole, when planning the placement of new large wood processing centers.
